Here’s what happened today
We will be closing this live page soon. Here is a recap of today’s main events:
- At least 24 Palestinians have been killed as Israeli forces continue to pound the besieged Gaza Strip, including 21 in attacks on the enclave’s north and Gaza City.
- UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini has warned that no humanitarian aid has entered Gaza for more than three weeks – the longest that Gaza has been without any supplies since the war began – as Israeli forces continue to seal shut vital border crossings.
- The Israeli military has again launched strikes on Lebanon, this time targeting the capital, Beirut, for the first time since a fragile ceasefire came into effect last November.
- The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has refuted reports that the bodies of its missing crew members were found in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, saying their fate is still unknown.
- US air strikes have targeted more than 40 locations across Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen, including in the capital, Sanaa, damaging multiple residential homes, and killing at least one person – according to Houthi media reports.

Video shows arrival of wounded north Yemen hospital
Video shared on Telegram – and verified by Al Jazeera’s fact-checking unit – shows the casualties from the latest round of US strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
The hospital said that one person who was killed and three wounded people arrived at the Republican Hospital in Saada, in northern Yemen.
The video was deemed too graphic for inclusion on this live page.
Houthi-affiliated media reported that 14 US strikes hit various areas of Yemen.
The Trump administration has given free rein to the US army to hit positions in Yemen after the Houthi rebels renewed their attacks on Israel and on shipping in the Red Sea.

WATCH: Israel launches first air strike on Lebanon’s Beirut since November truce
Israel has carried out an air strike on Lebanon’s capital for the first time since a fragile truce between the Israeli army and the Lebanese armed group, Hezbollah, in November halted a war between the two.
Residents fled as a building was flattened in the Hadath neighbourhood in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Friday when Israel carried out four strikes – an attack reminiscent of the months-long bombing campaign of last year when Israeli jets pounded the area.
Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem reports from southern Beirut:

Over 200 groups urge South Africa to return to ICJ
Over 200 South African and Palestinian human rights organisations have urged South Africa to return to the International Court of Justice to ensure the implementation of the provisional measures previously issued by the court against Israel.
In a statement, the groups thanked South Africa for being a “staunch supporter and protector of the fundamental rights and interests of Palestinians”. But they indicated that Israel’s resumed attacks on Gaza, as well as its ongoing military escalation in the occupied West Bank, amounted to a “change in situation” that could trigger the court’s prerogative to issue new or modify the existing measures.
In January 2024, the ICJ ordered Israel to refrain from any acts that could fall under the Genocide Convention and to ensure its troops commit no genocidal acts against Palestinians in Gaza. In March 2024, it ordered Israel to take all the necessary and effective action to ensure basic food supplies arrive without delay to the Palestinian population in Gaza.
And, in May 2024, the court ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah and withdraw from the enclave.
Since then, “Palestinians in Gaza have been subjected to a further seven months of unrelenting bombardment, forced displacement, starvation and erasure before the brief ceasefire that was violated by Israel hundreds of times in its 42-day existence”, the organisations wrote.

Israeli forces raid towns in occupied West Bank, wounding several
Israeli forces stormed the town of Beit Ummar and the Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron in the West Bank, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.
Israeli soldiers hurled tear gas canisters and fired live bullets towards residents.
In Beit Ummar, at least two men sustained injuries after being shot in the legs and feet, and a third person, a woman, suffered tear gas inhalation, Wafa cited the Palestinian Red Crescent as saying.
In Arroub refugee camp, it said two people suffered from tear gas inhalation.
Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli forces detained a Palestinian man in Tubas, near Nablus. He has been identified as 67-year-old Khaled Issa Sawafta, who was taken while passing through the Qalandiya checkpoint.
Israeli forces also stormed el-Bireh near Ramallah, and stationed themselves in the Am’ari refugee camp, Wafa said. It cited local sources as saying soldiers raided a commercial store and “fired live rounds and sound bombs indiscriminately”.

What is Al-Quds Day?
Palestine supporters across the world have marked “Al-Quds Day” as Israel continues its attacks on Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Al-Quds Day (or, simply, “Quds Day”) is an annual, international day to express support for Palestine and oppose the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Large rallies are held, usually beginning after the communal prayers on the last Friday of Ramadan.
“Al-Quds” or “Quds” is the Arabic name for Jerusalem. Hence, this event is also called “Jerusalem Day”.
Iran’s first supreme leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, established Quds Day in 1979 shortly after the Iranian Revolution to show solidarity with Palestinians and reject Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem. It has since become a symbol of resistance though some observers have claimed that the event was initiated by Iran to further its own political interests of using proxies to fight against Israel and Western powers.

It said 14 raids were carried out by the US on the outskirts of Saada city.
Meanwhile, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM), which now has authority from the White House to strike offensively in Yemen without pre-approval, said its forces struck “Houthti positions”, without providing more details.
The latest attack comes after the US targeted more than 40 locations across Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen, including in the capital, Sanaa, damaging multiple residential homes and shops earlier today.

WATCH: Gaza’s healthcare system on the brink as blood shortage worsens death toll
Gaza’s healthcare system is collapsing under the weight of relentless Israeli air strikes and a blockade on medical supplies. Hospitals are overwhelmed with casualties and lack the blood donations needed to save lives.
Doctors are struggling to treat the wounded as supplies run dangerously low, and medical staff are stretched beyond capacity.

Israel ‘deliberately obstructing search efforts’ for missing medics: PRCS
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has attempted to reach the area of Rafah where its medics went missing but were forced to withdraw by Israeli forces who prevented their access, the group has said.
In a statement on X, the group noted that it once again attempted a rescue operation for the missing team members, under escort by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, or OCHA, to reach the Tal as-Sultan area in Rafah to search for the missing EMTs.
“So far, no trace of our team members has been found,” the group said. “Yesterday, we discovered the four ambulance vehicles completely destroyed and buried in the sand. The occupation is deliberately obstructing search efforts to uncover the fate of our missing teams.”

UNRWA says more than 142,000 people forcibly displaced in recent days
The UN refugee agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has just published its latest weekly situation report for the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. Here are some of its key points:
- More than 142,000 people have been forcibly displaced in Gaza from March 18 to 23.
- More than 180 children were reported killed in Gaza on March 18, the day Israel broke the ceasefire, marking “one of the largest single-day child death tolls in the last year”.
- Humanitarian aid and supplies have not entered Gaza since March 2 when Israeli forces imposed a total siege on the enclave.
- This siege has now lasted more than three weeks, surpassing the duration of the total siege first imposed in October 2023 when the war began, resulting in a critical humanitarian crisis.
- Israel’s ongoing incursion into Palestinian cities and towns in the northern West Bank, including Jenin, is by far the single longest operation in the area since the second Intifada.
- The raids have caused the largest population displacement since 1967.

US says it expects Lebanese army to ‘prevent further attacks’: Report
Axios journalist Barak Ravid says he has spoken to Morgan Ortagus, US deputy special envoy for the Middle East, about Israel’s latest strike on the Lebanese capital, which the Israeli military says was in response to rockets fired by Hezbollah – something the Lebanese group denies.
“Israel is endangering its citizens and its interests” by responding to alleged rocket attacks from Lebanon, he quoted Ortagus as saying in a post on X.
“The Lebanese government is responsible for disarming Hezbollah and all other terrorists. We expect the Lebanese army to prevent further attacks,” she added, according to Ravid.
He said a senior American official stated Ortagus held talks with Lebanese officials today and the ceasefire was violated “by Lebanon, not Israel”.
“Ortagus also held talks with senior Israeli officials and emphasised that the US supports Israel but wants to avoid further escalation on the northern border,” Ravid added.

Palestinian Refugee Affairs chief calls on UN to reverse international staff withdrawal
The head of the PLO’s Refugee Affairs Department has called on the UN to reverse its decision to withdraw international staff from Gaza and the West Bank, the Palestinian agency Wafa reports.
The official, Ahmed Abu Holi, called on Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini, to reconsider their decision after several UN staffers, including a Bulgarian national who was killed, were hit by Israeli strikes in recent days.
Abu Holi said in a statement on Friday that the decision to withdraw international staff aligns with the two Israeli laws that ban UNRWA’s activities and prohibit its international and local staff from operating. He called the UN officials’ decision “hasty” and said it sets a dangerous precedent, adding that the presence of international staff serves as a protective element for Palestinians who seek refuge in UN shelters.
Abu Holi warned that the absence of international staff poses a heightened risk of Israeli forces committing crimes, as these foreign nationals can play an important role as witnesses.

Hezbollah calls on Lebanese gov’t to take action against Israeli strikes
The head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, Mohammed Raad, has called for stronger national unity and a firmer stance in the face of Israeli “aggression”, and called on the Lebanese government to take “practical steps” to stop strikes on the country.
His comments came after Israeli forces struck Beirut earlier today, despite a fragile ceasefire that came into effect last year following 13 months of war between Israel and the Lebanese group.
Raad said Hezbollah has not violated the ceasefire and that the state “must fulfil its duty to deter the enemy”.
The government does not have “exclusive authority” over decisions relating to the war, he said, adding that it is incapable of defending Lebanon on its own.
“Anyone who thinks the resistance is a thing of the past is mistaken,” he said.
