  • At least 64 people, including children and women, have been killed in incessant Israeli bombardment on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, health officials say.

    Here’s what happened today

We will be closing this live page soon. Here is a recap of today’s main events:

    • Medical sources tell Al Jazeera that at least 64 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli raids across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Sunday, the first day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
    • The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says it recovered the bodies of 14 medical workers who were attacked by Israeli forces while trying to reach wounded people last week in southern Gaza’s Rafah.

WATCH: Filmmaker’s search for stolen Palestinian films in Israel’s archive

Israeli researcher and filmmaker Karnit Mandel uncovers previously unseen footage of Palestinian life and history in a box of old VHS tapes.

The cassettes are a small sample from a huge archive seized from the PLO during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon.

Mandel tries to retrieve it from the Israeli army but comes up against overwhelming obstacles and bureaucracy.

I have finally understood the true meaning of Land Day

    By Nadera Mushtha

When I was a school student, every morning, we would gather in the schoolyard and sing songs dedicated to our land, Palestine. Many of our classes would teach us about our culture and traditions deeply rooted in Palestinian land.

Every March 30, we would mark Land Day. Girls would wear embroidered dresses and boys would wear white shirts and keffiyeh. We would sing under a raised Palestinian flag and commemorate the Palestinian land struggle.

I fully realised the true meaning of what I was taught about this struggle only when I faced displacement from my home, when I faced the very real possibility of losing my land.

Hamas says Israel’s Eid attacks show its ‘denial of moral values’

A statement on Telegram from the Palestinian group says the Israeli army has continued its bombardment of Gaza throughout the day, without any regard for the sanctity of Eid al-Fitr.

“The terrorist attacks on the first day of Eid al-Fitr resulted in the deaths of dozens of martyrs, including children in their Eid clothes,” it said.

“The killing of children on Eid day inside their tents reveals the occupation’s fascism and its denial of any human or moral values,” the statement added.

Medical sources told Al Jazeera earlier that 64 people have been killed since dawn on Sunday in Israeli raids across Gaza.

Turkiye slams Israel’s Saar after he called Erdogan ‘anti-Semite’

The Foreign Ministry in Ankara says it “categorically rejects the outrageous statement” made by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“These disrespectful and baseless allegations are part of an effort to cover up the crimes committed by Netanyahu and his associates,” the ministry said.

The statement comes after Saar said on X: “Dictator Erdogan has revealed his anti-Semitic face.”

“As is clearly seen these days, Erdogan is dangerous to both the region and his own people,” he added.

Saar’s remarks come in an apparent response to Erdogan’s speech at an Istanbul mosque a day ago, in which the Turkish president said: “May God destroy Zionist Israel.”

Israel’s assault meant to make Gaza uninhabitable

Tariq Kenney-Shawa, a US policy fellow at Al-Shabaka, a Palestinian policy network, says Israel’s “deliberate destruction of Gaza” aims to render the enclave uninhabitable and force out Palestinians.

Kenney-Shawa was commenting on a post earlier today from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office that said Israel was “not hiding”, that its “plan” is to follow through on US President Donald Trump’s proposal to clear Palestinians out of Gaza.

“Only thing they’re hiding at this point is that this was the plan all along,” Kenney-Shawa wrote on X.

“They’ll call it the ‘Trump plan,’ but Israel’s deliberate destruction of Gaza – the demolition of hospitals, water treatment plants, entire neighborhoods – was designed to render Gaza uninhabitable, and leave no alternative but mass displacement.”

Mapping how Israel’s land grabs are reshaping the West Bank

With all eyes on Gaza, Israel is rapidly redrawing the map of the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli military intensified its assault across the occupied West Bank, particularly in the northern regions, as a Gaza ceasefire deal came into effect in late January.

Israeli bulldozers have razed entire residential areas, forcibly expelling at least 40,000 people from their homes.

Check out our in-depth report on how this is happening, here.

    By Hind Khoudary

Since the early hours of the morning, Israeli forces have killed at least 35 Palestinians, including 10 children.

A lot of [injured people] were transferred here to Al-Aqsa Hospital. Doctors are saying that the hospital is overwhelmed, and due to the lack of medicine, it’s very hard to treat the wounded.

We’re talking about more than three weeks of zero trucks entering the Gaza Strip. The Israeli authorities continue to prevent any aid or medicine from coming in.

Red Cross federation expresses ‘outrage’ at killing of PRCS medics

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) says the attack that killed at least eight members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is the single deadliest attack on Red Cross/Red Crescent workers anywhere in the world since 2017.

“These dedicated ambulance workers were responding to wounded people. They were humanitarians. They wore emblems that should have protected them; their ambulances were clearly marked. They should have returned to their families; they did not,” IFRC Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain said in a statement.

“Even in the most complex conflict zones, there are rules. These rules of International Humanitarian Law could not be clearer – civilians must be protected; humanitarians must be protected. Health services must be protected,” Chapagain said.

“Our network is in mourning, but this is not enough. Instead of another call on all parties to protect and respect humanitarians and civilians, I pose a question: ‘When will this stop?’ All parties must stop the killing, and all humanitarians must be protected.'”

The @IFRC condemns the killing of eight @PalestineRCS medics in Gaza.

We are heartbroken. These dedicated humanitarians, killed while responding to the wounded, should have been protected.

We mourn their loss and stand with the Palestine Red Crescent.

WATCH: ‘Eid of Sadness’ – Gaza marks festival amid bombings, lack of food

Palestinians in the enclave had little to celebrate as they marked Eid al-Fitr with rapidly dwindling food supplies and no end in sight to the Israeli bombardment.

Many held prayers outside demolished mosques on the day marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, as at least 25 Palestinians were killed on Sunday, most of them women and children.

The Muslim festival is supposed to be a joyous occasion, when families gather for feasts and buy new clothes for children – but most of Gaza’s Palestinians are just trying to survive.

Al Jazeera’s Victoria Gatenby reports on what has become a sombre and a muted holiday in Gaza:

Gaza Health Ministry condemns killing of medics as ‘heinous crime’

The statement comes after the Palestine Red Crescent Society said earlier that it recovered the bodies of 14 Gaza civil defence and health workers in total in Rafah.

Five Palestinian Civil Defence personnel and one United Nations employee were among the 14 killed, PRCS said.

The health ministry said in its statement that the bodies of eight paramedics were recovered today after contact with them had been lost over the previous days.

It added: “Some of these bodies were bound and shot in the chest. They were buried in a deep hole to prevent their identification.”

The ministry called on “UN organisations and relevant international bodies to conduct an urgent investigation into these crimes and hold the occupation accountable for committing them.”
