Iran has options available to dilute enriched uranium
Richard Schmierer, former US ambassador to Oman, has told Al Jazeera that Trump’s latest comments on Iran’s highly enriched uranium suggest potential options that Iran may agree to.
“I think there are ways to address that issue that Iran can agree to, and that would be acceptable to President Trump,” Schmierer said.
This could include Iran “diluting the current amount of high enriched uranium” it has and keeping “a certain amount of low-enriched uranium on hand”, he said.
Or it could be achieved by Iran shipping its enriched uranium out of the country, he continued.
“I think shipping it, potentially to Russia, might actually be something Iran would be agreeable to,” he added.

In a detailed post in English on X, Baghaei said that “US Precision Strike Missiles” were used in the attack, which struck a residential area in Lamerd, in the Fars province, including a sports hall, citing a briefing from a member of parliament representing Lamerd.
“The attack slaughtered 24 persons, including a 2-year-old girl, several teenage volleyball players, and other women and men,” Baghaei said.
“Those who ordered and executed this attack must be held accountable before any competent court of law,” he added.

Israel intensifies attacks, leaving civilians in southern Lebanon facing dire displacement crisis
If Israel decides to significantly increase the number and intensity of its attacks, it will place civilians in an extremely difficult situation. Following the ceasefire and its subsequent extension, thousands of people returned to southern Lebanon because they did not want to remain displaced long term.
Most of those who fled to Beirut stayed with relatives or lived in temporary shelters and camps set up in public areas near the waterfront. But this went on for weeks, and many people no longer wanted to live in such difficult conditions.
As for the government, it does not have the resources to cope with such a massive displacement crisis: More than one million people have been displaced, and only around 130,000 of them are living in government shelters.
That means roughly 90 percent of displaced people have nowhere to go for government support, including medical supplies and other daily necessities, forcing many to fend for themselves.
Now that Israel is significantly expanding the scope of its strikes, places that people once considered safe no longer are. This is something we have already seen over the past two weeks, as Israel expanded its strikes in the eastern Bekaa Valley, and began attacking areas much closer to Tyre, where tens of thousands of people are still living.

‘Economic issues at forefront in US-Iran talks as Trump looks for diplomacy in Lebanon’
Richard Schmierer, former US ambassador to Oman and deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, has commented on the ongoing US-Iran negotiations, saying he expects an agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz that also requires the US to lift its blockade of Iranian ports.
The following step would then be reaching a financial agreement that includes the lifting of sanctions on Iran and the repatriation of a significant portion of Tehran’s frozen assets.
“The economic issues are probably now front and centre, and then after that, we’ll come to the nuclear issue, and I think the two countries will come to some kind of compromise on that as well,” Schmierer told Al Jazeera.
Schmierer added that there was a “growing disconnect” between the US and Israel on the war in Lebanon. “Trump is looking to take more of a diplomatic approach, whereas Israel mistakenly continues to believe there can be a military solution,” he said. “I think President Trump will do his best to ensure that Israel does not ramp up its military attacks in Lebanon.”
