We will be closing this live page shortly and moving over to a new one, but before we do, here are the main developments of the day:

    • IAEA chief Grossi says many nuclear activities that were taking place in Iran have now stopped.
    • The US military says it has disabled a Botswana-flagged oil tanker after it attempted to sail towards Iran’s Kharg Island.
    • The closure of the Strait of Hormuz could see oil import costs rise by $20bn, hitting poorer countries hardest, UN Trade and Development says.
    • Israeli forces have continued deadly attacks across southern Lebanon, including one that killed four adults and two children in the Lebanese town of al-Marwaniyeh.
    • A Hezbollah drone attack injured four Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon.

Trump berated Netanyahu? Analysts question US-Israel feud rumours

Since Trump began his second presidency, media outlets have published anonymous accounts of rifts and “frustrating” calls between Trump and Netanyahu. But the US support for Israel has never wavered.

Experts say that despite leaks of feuds and harsh words between US leaders and Netanyahu, policies are ultimately what matters, and they have changed very little.

Average petrol price in US jumped 42.2 percent in May compared with 2025

The figures released by the US Transportation Department come as oil prices jumped about 1 percent to a one-week high in volatile trade on Tuesday as the market waits for news on US-Iran talks.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major factor currently affecting oil prices, with the near-total blockade choking off about a fifth of global oil and LNG flows and driving prices up by 50 percent or more.

Trump faces pressure to secure concessions amid criticism

The US needs to get some kind of nuclear concession from Iran; otherwise, Trump’s opponents can say he made a deal that took the US back to February 27, before the war on Iran started, according to Alan Eyre, a fellow at the Middle East Institute.

“On Iran’s side, they need money, so they need either unblocked assets, a toll system, or something, because their economy is in a shambles,” Eyre told Al Jazeera.

He cautioned that “the blockade is hurting Iran, but it’s hurting Iran on the scale of months, whereas the closure of the strait is much more immediate and much more urgent”, he said, referring to the US blockade on Iranian ports, and Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

How the war has made Iran’s water crisis worse

As Iran engages in negotiations to end the war, it is confronted with a water crisis that has been overshadowed by the conflict.

Iran was already facing a multi-year drought and decline in precipitation, but the war has added to the water woes after desalination plants, water pipelines and other civilian infrastructures were hit.

The country’s main water supplies, including its reservoirs, rivers and groundwater reserves, are running dry amid years of mismanagement through poor agricultural practices, overbuilding of dams and increased well drilling.

Day of frustration and criticism of Netanyahu in Israel

According to many politicians, many media analysts talking to several Israeli media, Netanyahu has chosen once again his political interests, his survival at the expense of the strategic goals that many Israelis were hoping he would achieve against Hezbollah.

Many opposition leaders, as well as coalition members, who have been lobbying for him to expand his military assault inside Beirut, are very frustrated and criticising Netanyahu, saying that once again, he chose himself.

Let’s not forget that Netanyahu had a hidden motive. Yes, he wanted to expand the military assault in Beirut for his own reasons. But he wanted to derail the talks between the US and Iran. And that’s why many believe Trump made that phone call and threatened him.

It’s a day of frustration and criticism of Netanyahu in Israel.
