    American supporters hanging back

    By Usaid Siddiqui

While most supporters are heading home, it’s the Americans who understandably are hanging back to enjoy some music at the FIFA music stage.

Before leaving, Iranian fans could be seen congratulating the US supporters, taking selfies and videos together, with no sign of animosity between fans.

    Heartbreak for Iran

    By Usaid Siddiqui

Iranian fan Behram said he was “absolutely heartbroken and shattered” after the narrow loss and that it was a disappointing end to the game.

“The loss against England was bad …. but we showed how good we are against Wales … but today we made too many mistakes… defensively and offensively,” the 45 year old said.

“They (US) deserve the victory,” he said.

    Ecstasy for US fans

    By Usaid Siddiqui

Rob Converse, 39, said it is an “amazing” feeling for the US to qualify for the Round of 16 for the first time since 2014.

“That was an amazing game and feeling. Soccer is not that big in the US but being overseas I have started to catch on,” Converse said.

“The whole time we were pins and needles. Those extra nine minutes were not easy at all,” he said, adding that he lives in Doha with his wife, MJ, who was also at the game.

Iran can leave with their heads held high

Placed against the backdrop of the political turmoil in their country and a host of off-field issues they have encountered since arriving in Qatar, Iran deserve credit for their showing in this World Cup. They ultimately fell short, but they can leave with their heads held high.

    Full-time!

USA win 1-0 and are through to the Round of 16!

Players from both sides crumble to the floor at full time. That was a slog for both teams, but USA have ground out a win here. And you’ve got to say, they deserved it.

    Cleared off the line!

Iran play a long ball in and the ball ends up past Turner but is comfortably cleared. Taremi was on the floor there and Iran were bellowing for a penalty. VAR says no.

    Iran have been listless today

Just the one shot on target for Iran today. Matt Turner has had busier days on the bench for Arenal. They scored twice in injury time against Wales. Will there be more late drama here?
