    A memorable night for Sporting

A terrific second-half performance helped Sporting defeat City 4-1 for a memorable Champions League victory.

It is Sporting’s only second victory over City in all competitions. They last defeated City 1-0 in the Europa League in 2012.

The result will also be extra special for Sporting fans as this was their team’s final Champions League game under manager Amorim, who will take over City’s rivals Man United in the Premier League later this month.

Full time: Sporting 4-1 Man City

Off goes the full-time whistle in Lisbon!

Sporting have come from a goal down to thrash Man City 4-1 in the Champions League.

City, the reigning English champions, made a perfect start with a goal from Foden in the fourth minute, but Gyokeres scored an equaliser just before the break.

In the second half, Sporting scored within 20 seconds of the restart through Gyokeres before the striker completed his hat-trick with a spot-kick later.

City had the chance to salvage themselves when they were awarded a penalty, but Haaland struck the woodwork.

City will rue their missed chances – they had 20 attempts, but found the net only once. This is their third straight defeat in all competitions after losing to Bournemouth in the Premier League and Tottenham in the League Cup.
