  • Australia beat New Zealand by six wickets in the first T20 international of their three-match series at Sky Stadium in Wellington.
  • Tim David’s 10-ball 31 took the visitors home on the last ball of the match to seal a nail-biting win.
  • Australia captain Mitchell Marsh was named the player of the match for his 72 runs and tidy bowling.
  • New Zealand set Australia a target of 215 on the back of a 113-run partnership between Devon Conway (63) and Rachin Ravindra (68).
  • The second T20 will be played in Auckland on Friday.

    New Zealand and Australia will now travel to Auckland for the rest of the T20I series. They will meet in the second game on Friday followed by the third on Sunday.

    The teams are due to play two tests after the T20I series.

    Australia win thriller in Kiwi capital!

    That was a thrilling finish to a high-scoring match in the Kiwi capital!

    Australia go 1-0 up in the three-match T20 series.

    The visitors pulled it off on the final ball, as David hit a four to seal the win. His 10-ball 31 proved to be an invaluable innings.

    Captain Marsh was Australia’s top scorer 72 not-out, while Warner scored 32.

    The 44-run partnership between Marsh and David came off just 19 balls and helped Australia complete their third highest successful run-chase in T20 internationals.

    It was a heartbreaking result for New Zealand after their excellent batting display in the first innings, which Ravindra and Conway led.

    Santner picked up two wickets, although he was very expensive, while Milne and Ferguson bagged a wicket apiece.
