New Zealand and Australia will now travel to Auckland for the rest of the T20I series. They will meet in the second game on Friday followed by the third on Sunday.

The teams are due to play two tests after the T20I series.

That was a thrilling finish to a high-scoring match in the Kiwi capital!

Australia go 1-0 up in the three-match T20 series.

The visitors pulled it off on the final ball, as David hit a four to seal the win. His 10-ball 31 proved to be an invaluable innings.

Captain Marsh was Australia’s top scorer 72 not-out, while Warner scored 32.

The 44-run partnership between Marsh and David came off just 19 balls and helped Australia complete their third highest successful run-chase in T20 internationals.

It was a heartbreaking result for New Zealand after their excellent batting display in the first innings, which Ravindra and Conway led.

Santner picked up two wickets, although he was very expensive, while Milne and Ferguson bagged a wicket apiece.

David hits a four and seals the victory on the final ball of the match! What a nail-biting finish to this contest.

Phillips dived at the boundary to stop the ball, but he failed, hanging his head in shame.

After conceding a first-ball wide, Southee has done well to restrict the Aussies to singles off the next three.

He then bowls a yorker and appeals for an LBW dismissal against Marsh, but the umpire does not raise his finger. New Zealand decide to take a review.

Replays show the ball was pitching outside leg and Marsh survives.

David hits a wide delivery from Milne for a four and hammers the next one for a massive six! The biggest six of this game as 98 metres!

He ends the over with another six, as the Aussies get 19 off it.

Australia need 16 runs from the final over for a win. Can they finish this chase successfully?

Bowling the second to last over, Milne starts with three singles off the first three balls. Good start from the pacer!

Marsh survives a run-out attempt by Ferguson, who makes a good start to the over!

After two dot balls, Marsh hits him for a six, smashing it over deep square leg.

With two overs remaining, Australia need 35 more runs to win.

Santner finishes an excellent over, picking up a wicket and giving away only three runs!

Inglis tries to go big, but he is caught at deep backward square leg by Ravindra! Santner has dismissed Inglis for 20.

Marsh wraps up Sodhi’s over with a six, which travelled 84 metres! It has rained sixes in this contest, which is nearing an exciting finish.

Inglis smashes a six into the stands! He pulls it over midwicket, as Australia take 12 runs from the over.

With five overs remaining, Australia need 59 more runs to win.

Southee, under pressure, has bowled three wides in a row. It’s not looking good for the Kiwis, who are falling behind in this contest.

After a costly last over by Santner, Sodhi helps his side by bowling a tight over, giving away only four runs.

Meanwhile, Marsh has brought up his half-century in just 29 balls.

Inglis hits Milne for a four, as the crowd in Wellington goes silent.

Later, Inglis is dropped by Southee, who pulled off a dive but couldn’t get the ball in his hands.
