Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk ‘hurt’ by defeat
“I have no words for this. When you concede so late, it’s terrible,” the Dutch captain said. “This hurts a lot. You give it your all and if it still turns out like that, it sucks.
“You have more possession, and you want to take advantage of the little moments you get. It felt like we could make it 2-1. But that didn’t happen, and now we’re standing here empty-handed.”

England manager Gareth Southgate relishes first final on foreign soil
England’s previous two appearances in major finals have come on home soil – the 1966 World Cup final win and the defeat by Italy at the last Euros.
Manager Gareth Southgate was asked by English broadcaster ITV where reaching this final ranks in his achievements: “It has to be the best. It’s another landmark, but we played so well throughout the game.
“It was a complicated game. They changed constantly, but it’s a very special night and huge credit to the squad. The most important thing is that all of the squad is ready to come into the game. Their attitude has been exemplary
“We felt energy-wise we were losing pressure, Kane got that knock in the first half, and we felt it was a good moment to try Watkins.
“The opponent gave us a little more space, the early games we didn’t have much space to play. We had to adapt all the time, and we made so many good decisions on the pitch.
“We also had Foden’s shot off the line – that’s as well as Foden has played in an England shirt. The disallowed goal [by Saka] is inches as well – so we deserved the win.”

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman rues ‘great’ goal
“In the first half yes (England were better), in the second half not so – it was more 50/50,” Koeman told English broadcaster, ITV. “They created problems in our midfield in the first half. We didn’t handle the way they played between the lines with Bellingham and Foden.
“We changed that and my feeling was we were a little more fresh than England in the end but they scored a great goal in the last minute.
“Maybe we deserved extra time but we had a great tournament.”

Bellingham revels in comeback win
“[The win] has got to be up there,” Bellingham said. “To be back here at this club [Dortmund] that has turned me into the man and player that I am is really special for me,” he added.
“These moments are great and bring us together as a team and a family. You live through that and get stronger. It’s about taking that into the final now.”
Talking about Watkins, he said: “I’m so happy for him – he came on and took his opportunity and we are proud of him. People don’t understand, you miss your holidays and your fans and you’re not playing like with your club, but his attitude has been brilliant.”
Speaking about their final opponents, Spain, Bellingham said: “They’ve looked amazing, but one-off game and anything can happen. We will do our preparation and look forward to it.”

A message from King Charles for England’s team
British media are reporting that The King has sent the below message to Southgate and the England players and their support team:
“My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the Uefa European Championship – and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.
If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last-minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!
Good luck, England.
Charles R”

More from England captain Kane
“Especially in the first half, we had a lot of control. Second half there were a few tired legs out there. Overall I thought we deserved to win it,” Kane said.
Talking about playing Spain in Sunday’s final, he said: “Another unbelievably tough game. There’s one more game to make history. That’s what we’re excited about. It’s been a tough journey but there’s one more. 90 minutes, 120, penalties, whatever it takes, we’ll be there. I’m looking forward to it.”

‘Amazing achievement,’ says England captain Kane
“It’s an amazing achievement. I am so proud of everyone,” Kane said post-match.
“To do what we’ve done away from home is really special. There’s that feeling there’s one more left and we need to do that on Sunday.”
Talking about Watkins coming off the bench to score the winner, Kane said: “We talk about being ready. We’re a big team at being ready. When it matters, you might get five minutes, one minute, but you can make a difference, you can win us a tournament. He’s been waiting, he’s been patient. What he did was outstanding and he deserves it.”

More from Watkins
Asked about the criticism aimed at Southgate for not making changes quickly enough, Watkins said: “There has been a lot of criticism but at the end of the day we are in the final. And that’s all that matters. Forget all the outside noise, we are in the final!”
“We have got that kind of ‘bounce-back’ factor. Going a goal behind, but it seems to kick us into gear. We never give up … we have won penalties, we have come from behind.
“One more game now! We are ready for Spain.”

England goalscorer Watkins wins player of the match
“I have been waiting for that moment for weeks,” Watkins said as he received his award for the player of the match.
“It took a lot of hard work to get where I am today. I’m grateful that I got the opportunity and I grabbed it with both hands. I’m delighted,” he added.
“I swear on my life … I said to Cole Palmer we’re coming on today and you’re going to set me up. That’s why I was so happy.”
“When I saw the ball go in the bottom corner it was the best feeling ever!”
