That’s a wrap
It wasn’t quite the attacking showpiece we were hoping for, but Chelsea and Arsenal traded blows in a dogged 1-1 affair at Stamford Bridge.
The gap between them is now six points, but with plenty of games left, anything can still happen this season.
We hope you enjoyed our coverage of this London derby, and on behalf of Al Jazeera, this is Rohan Sharma signing off.

‘We were a much better team than them 11 versus 11’
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca dissected the match as well: “I think we showed we are heading in the right direction. I always say the same – the performance has been fantastic. We were a much better team than them 11 versus 11, but with 10 players, it is difficult, but we dealt with it outstandingly.
“At 11 versus 11, we were better than them. We tried to exploit the best solution, the best space. We knew the space was there for Malo [Gusto] and Estevao. Tonight we can be happy even if we didn’t win.
“I think the [Caicedo] red card is a red card. I struggle to understand the different ways to judge. What about [Rodrigo] Bentancur to Reece? Why is one a red card and one isn’t?
“I think it’s a red card tonight, it’s clear. Why the difference? Moises [Caicedo] is always the same way. Top player for us. The desire from him is to try and win the game.
“It’s football. It’s between Chelsea and Arsenal. You have to double the effort, that is the most important thing. We didn’t change a lot on the ball. We tried to go to Liam. In open play, the idea was exactly the same.
“I think we are better than last season. We are closer. We’ll see where we are in February and March, and then we’ll assess our target.”

‘When you don’t win with 10 men for 45 minutes you have to be disappointed’
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta shared his thoughts after the match: “Right from the beginning, you could sense how much was at stake. Every duel and action was full of gas and very short sequences of play.
“With the 10 men, we expected a different game. We planned it, we went through it in the second half. They get a free kick and they score. Then it becomes a very tricky game to play.
“Overall, I think that when you don’t win with 10 men for 45 minutes, you have to be disappointed. But you have to know the week we had, [with] a tough opponent [in Bayern Munich].
“They did everything they can again. They’ve never played together, so we needed to build that synergy. There were a lot of things happening before the game. The spirit of the team is intact. We’ve had a massive week both mentally and physically, and I think overall it’s a positive week.
“You have to play the occasion in certain duels and the way they propose the game as well. There are certain moments where you can sense at times. We gave everything.
“It’s very tricky. They have a lot of experienced players with big personalities. They know what they are doing and who to target. We have to play all those within the game. In the end, we scored. We had two massive chances as well to score and we didn’t.
“I don’t know the right words because I’m disappointed obviously with not getting the three points against 10 men. But with everything that happened in the week, I think overall I just have to be very proud of what the team has done.”

‘When you wear this shirt, you want to win every game’
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino spoke with Sky Sports: “On one hand, disappointed because we didn’t win. When you wear this shirt, you want to win every game. This is a really tough stadium to come and take a point. We could have done things better, but the team showed good mentality.
“Maybe managing the game better and understanding what they were trying to do. With 10 men, we could have had more patience with the ball. Trying to find the wings and cross with players in the box. Obviously, they are a good side.
“I felt my ankle go all the way [in regards to the Caicedo red card tackle], but luckily I have very mobile ankles and body. I knew it was a horrible challenge and it was going to be a red card.
“It’s something we train every day [regarding set pieces] and try to position ourselves on the blind side of the defenders. When you train with each other every day, you know your strengths and weaknesses.
“This is the Premier League. It’s very strong, and it’s why you see so many transitions. If you win a duel, then you can attack the box.”

Reece James is your player of the match
Here is what the Chelsea captain told Sky Sports after the match: “Disappointed to come away with one point. We went down early to 10 men. That made it difficult I felt. We had more of the ball when it was 11 v 11.
“Yeah, going down to 10 men made it more difficult. Everyone can see where we are and what we are fighting for. Today was a big statement. We wanted to win, so lots of positives to take from that.
“We worked hard. There is a lot of analysis from the management staff to set us up.
“If you looked at the amount of yellows, you felt there was a red [in the offing]. It is a London derby (laughs), and everyone wants to win this game.
“Arsenal have been on the top for the last few years. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Their midfield is tough. We’ve done what we could today to play our game and hurt them off the ball.
“He [Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca] changed the formation slightly, and he knew they were going to come at us. So we tried to soak up the pressure, and then try to catch them [on the counter].
“I am proud of the boys. It was electric at the Bridge today. We are happy to take the point.”

Arsenal extend lead at top to five points
When Caicedo was sent off in the 38th minute, it looked like Arsenal were on course for an important away victory against their London rivals.
But Chelsea seemed to go up a gear, and did well to cover the man disadvantage they had.
Chelsea will not feel too badly about the result, while Merino’s goal may prove crucial down the road for Arsenal.

Gyokeres booked
Since the forward was well in his right to go after the opportunity, the referee decides a yellow is appropriate.
Sanchez, after receiving some treatment, is good to proceed.

Sanchez hurt
As Arsenal make a run into the Chelsea end, Merino gets a touch of space and fires low to Sanchez’s left.
The keeper does well to keep out the initial chance, but can’t hold onto the rebound.
Gyokeres spots it and rushes in to try and slide it home, but Sanchez also tries to dive onto the ball at the same time, and is caught in the face by Gyokeres’s boot.
The Chelsea players swarm the referee to plead for a red card, but the referee calms down the situation.

You wouldn’t know Chelsea were down to 10 men, such has been the manner in which they have carried themselves since the Caicedo incident.
