Lyon vs Manchester United 2-2: UEFA Europa League – as it happened

Lyon are on a run of nine wins in 11 games.

Domestically, the club are fourth in France and hunting a return to the Champions League for the first time since their run to the 2019-2020 semifinals.

Manchester United were beaten 4-1 in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Alejandro Garnacho scored the only goal for United to level the scores in the 37th minute.

The Red Devils’ coach Rubin Amorim choose to make a number of changes to the team sheet with the second leg against Lyon in mind.

“We are really disappointed we should have taken the advantage to the next game, but it is in our home and we will try to win the game,” the Manchester United manager told TNT Sports.

When asked about Onana’s mistake for the goals, he added, “It’s important to focus on the next game and then focus on the game against Lyon in the second leg. Of course, when one player has a mistake, then the whole team has a mistake.”

“We continue to do the same thing, training and choosing the best team to win the match.”

On the overall performance, he said, “We did well. In the first half, we had some difficulties pressing the opponent because they play in a different way, but then, especially in the second half, we adapted and controlled the game. We were near the box of Lyon and we did well, but I think we can do better.

“We are improving game-by-game, but we need to be more clinical. It is two games and it is half-time, and we need to think about the next one.

“We have a Premier League game to think about on Sunday, then we can think about the second leg.

“We have a game with our fans and we will give our all to go to the next stage.”

There will be question marks over the United keeper for both goals in the game.

“This is the worst moment to concede a goal like that, but we will take the draw and try to win at home,” the United defender told TNT Sports.

“We defended well, but they have good strikers and we concede the goal.

“It was nice to score my first goal, but no time to celebrate.

“We were compact and denied counterattacks.

“We would be more confident at 2-1, but we can win at Old Trafford.”

United dominated the play, but the open chances were probably edged by Lyon in the end.

It sets up a belting second leg in Manchester.

That was the final kick and the home side have something to take to Old Trafford next week.

The home side are level as Cherki follows up a stabbed effort at goal. Onana could only parry it back into the path of the on rushing forward.
