Inzaghi says his players ‘gave me everything’

Inter’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, has been speaking to reporters:

“First of all, I have to congratulate Barcelona, a really strong team. It took a super Inter [to beat them]. A round of applause for these guys, who put in two monstrous performances.

“I’m happy to be their coach; they gave me everything they had. It’s right that they enjoy their success in this stadium.

“We had some problems but, with heart, we overcame every obstacle.

“We tried to play it with the qualities we have. After the first leg, we had the game plan in mind, but without the sacrifice and the help of all of us together, you can’t do it. Well done guys – they deserve this final.”

Flick says he’s proud of his team

Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick has been speaking at a post-match news conference:

“I know that everybody is disappointed now. We invested a lot in this game; personally, I’m proud of my team, who gave everything. We will be back next season to try to win the UEFA Champions League.

“When you see the atmosphere of tonight’s game, you want to come back. We have to accept the result. Inter’s strikers are strong and experienced.

“We have a young team and we will improve. Our job is to make this team better and better. We can improve in defence, but also in attack. In the second half, we played better as a team compared to the first half.

“This is a tough defeat, but we have to stand up. This is a message I want to give to my players. I think my players deserved the final. When they will look at themselves in the mirror tonight, they can be really proud.”

    ‘We played with heart’

Inter full-back Matteo Darmian has also been speaking to Amazon Prime.

“What a night! It was a crazy game. We were 2-0 up, but then they scored three. We never gave up – that is inter, and we play with our heart,” he said.

“I have to be honest, Barca is a very good team, but we played with heart and I think we deserved at the end to be in the final.

“Now we play the final, and everyone wants to lift the trophy. It will be difficult, but we are there because we deserve to be there.

“Arsenal and PSG and both very good teams, but I hope this time, we can lift the trophy.”

Barca ‘need to be proud’ Garcia says

Barca defender Eric Garcia has been speaking to Amazon Prime.

“It was the small details. The first half was tough, the reaction was amazing,” he said.

“We had chances to close the game. I had one also, then it was the small moments.

“That is football. We need to be proud of what we did.

“For me, the first penalty was not a penalty … Sommer did three or four amazing saves, one to Lamine.

“Over the two games, I think we were the better team. But they took their chances and we need to learn that for the future.”

‘I’m so grateful to the fans’

Lautaro Martinez, who scored Inter’s first goal, praised the fans after the win and said that he had not been fully fit after picking up an injury in the first leg.

“My family is here and I’m so happy for Inter. I am so grateful to the fans and so happy we have gone through,” he told Amazon Prime.

“[My injury] was really bad, I wasn’t in a great place. I wasn’t 100 percent but the medical staff worked hard to get me ready.

“We will do what we can; there is just one more step to go. We will do everything we can to get Inter to the highest point of European football.”

“Many teams would have given up after going down 3-2, but we didn’t, and managed to come back.”

UEFA name Inter keeper Sommer as man of the match

Inter partly have Sommer to thank for making several incredible saves during the game.

“He kept Inter in the game with some magic intuitive saves, denying Yamal on several occasions to help send Inter to the final,” the UEFA Technical Observer Group said.

“Key moments at crucial times from the Swiss international goalkeeper.”

Inter face PSG or Arsenal in the final

Inter rode a roller coaster to win this game – they were 2-0 up at half-time after goals by Martinez and a penalty by Calhanoglu.

But Barcelona poured it on Inter early in the second half and scored two goals in 10 minutes to equalise.

Barca thought they’d won it when Raphinha gave them the lead three minutes from time, but Acerbi grabbed an equaliser deep into stoppage time to send the game into extra time.

Frattesi scored a smartly taken goal in the 99th minute to give Inter the lead and the home side managed to hold on to see out the win, with Sommer making some crucial saves from Yamal.

Inter will face either PSG or Arsenal in the final.
