‘The support is incredible’
Alexander-Arnold hailed the passion of the Madrid fans.
“I felt the support from the moment I signed with the club, to be honest – absolutely sensational. Our fan base is truly global, all over the world, and you feel it every day from the fans at the training ground, or the hotel, on social media as well. The support is incredible.
“So, thank you for that. And of course, we dominated the stands today as well, which is incredible.”
He said Madrid kept the ball much better in the second half.
“These things [penalty misses] do happen in football, no one’s to blame,” he said. “We take the positives, we have things that we can work on, and I’m sure we can take that into the next game.”

‘It’s disappointing not to [win], but there were a lot of positives’
Real Madrid’s newly signed right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has given his thoughts to DAZN:
“It was an incredible day – to make a debut for Real Madrid. It’s something I think almost every player dreams of. So to be able to achieve it is huge for me,” he said.
“Of course, there’s some disappointment in there to have not won the game – that’s the mentality you have to have as a Real Madrid player is to want and expect to win every game that you play in.
“So it’s disappointing not to do that, but there were a lot of positives – especially in the second half.”

Alonso hails Madrid’s second half performance
New Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has been speaking to DAZN.
“The first half was not as good as the second one, we improved in the second half and were able to play in their half much longer – better chances, better control,” he said.
“We need to take positives from every game and learn what we can improve, and for sure, every game will give us lessons to keep improving.”
Alonso said that Vinicius Jr is fine, after the Madrid winger was spotted with a bandaged ankle.
“He had some cramps because of the heat, because of the pitch – it was a really demanding game,” he said.

‘We need to keep working’
Neves said Al Hilal will approach the next game in the same positive manner.
“We need to keep working, keep improving in all the details,” he said.
“I think the team spirit today was unbelievable and we need to improve from here now.”

Neves ‘very proud’ of Al Hilal teammates
Al Hilal midfielder and goalscorer Ruben Neves has been speaking to DAZN:
“It was a very good game from us. I think we prepared very well and we showed it today. I think we were better than Real Madrid in the first half; we should have been winning at half-time,” he said.
“But OK, they scored a goal in a moment that we knew they are very strong, which is the counterattack.
“In the second half, they had more of the ball, but we controlled the game. We couldn’t score with our counterattack in the second half, but I think it was a fantastic performance from the team, so I’m very proud of everyone.
“We are playing against the biggest teams in the world – we were playing against Madrid and of course we wanted to win the game, and we showed that on the pitch.
“I think everyone saw that we didn’t come here to draw or to defend a result; we came here to win. But a draw is a draw, [even] against Real Madrid, and there are still two games to go.”

‘They never panicked’
Given said it was impressive how composed Al Hilal remained throughout the game.
“They never panicked, and Inzaghi has only been there for a week or so, the new manager,” Given told DAZN.
He’s had a great impact [even though] he hasn’t had a lot of time to work with the players … there was no panic after going a goal behind; they kept playing and they deserved to get back into the game.”

‘Great credit to Al Hilal’
“Great credit to Al Hilal, they played really well,” former Newcastle and Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given tells DAZN.
“Everyone before the game and the neutrals thought it was going to be an easy game for Real Madrid, but far from it.”
Given said he thought that “justice was done” at the end as Al Hilal’s keeper saved the penalty.
“I didn’t feel it was a penalty,” he said.

Al Hilal survive late penalty scare to grab a point off Madrid
Al Hilal hold Real Madrid to a draw and it was fully deserved – the Saudi team even had enough chances to win that game, especially during a highly impressive first half.
Madrid thought they’d won the game at the death after they were awarded a penalty, but Al Hilal keeper Bono had the edge over Valverde and guessed right to dive and save his spot kick.
Garcia had given Madrid a first-half lead against the run of play after converting a lovely pass from Rodrygo to open the scoring on his first team debut. He had a few other chances to score during the match, mainly through headers, but could not put them away.
Al Hilal scored a first-half equaliser through a penalty, and new boss Inzaghi will no doubt be highly impressed by his side’s performance.

Chance for Garcia
Huijsen sends a searching ball to the back post. Garcia wins the header, but it’s straight at Bono.
Bono holds onto the ball for too long and is penalised by the referee, who awards Madrid a corner under new regulations against time wasting! Luckily for Bono, the corner is cleared.
