Some reaction from the Atletico camp now, with Morten Hjulmand speaking to UEFA:
“It was a deserved win. We had a very good performance against a strong opponent. Even though they had some chances, we had a bit luck and a good goalkeeper, and overall it was an amazing performance from the team.”
On Atletico scoring after less than a minute: “When we play at home, we always start with intensity. When we attack, we do it fast. I think that ball from Kang-in Lee to Alex Baena was amazing. His timing with the deep run was also amazing, a very good attack and then a nice finish. It was a really good start and that is what we can do here at Estadio Metropolitano.”
On continuing their good form: “We have a hard programme with so many games before the international break. We need all our players to play against strong opponents as well.”
We’ll be bringing you more Champions League action on Wednesday as Manchester City host Paris Saint-Germain.

Youri Tielemans has also been speaking to the media after that defeat.
He was asked about Martinez’s comments, after the United defender attacked the board for a lack of investment this summer.
“I have got no comment on that,” he said.
Here is what else he had to say:
On two wins from the opening nine games: “It is hard to say after defeat that there is positivity. We have spells in games where we play well but can’t capitalise on our chances.”
On getting back on track: “The only thing that is gonna make us come back is to get a few wins, but we have to keep working and keep together.”

Atletico Madrid have now lost only two of their last 20 home UEFA matches against English teams.
Ten of those were wins, with eight draws.

Lisandro Martinez had some pretty strong words at full time and certainly didn’t hold back, particularly about a lack of investment at United. This is what he had to say:
“Really poor. I have to control myself a lot but sometimes it is a reflection in the mirror of how our club is at the moment.”
When asked if he expected more investment in the summer, Martinez replied with “100 percent”.
“In general I think last season we did everything we can to create the base to create an amazing team, it is annoying and disappointing coming here and not seeing my team coming here and trying to get an amazing result.”

More pressure on Michael Carrick as United fall to another defeat, this time deservedly beaten by Atlético.

It has been an unconvincing start to the season for the Red Devils, who still only have two wins from their opening fixtures.
They’ve only managed to defeat Ipswich Town and Sabah so far.
They head to Leeds United next on Sunday – can they make it three?

When United were 1-0 down after just 53 seconds, Michael Carrick must have feared the worst following a poor start to the season.
But the away side rallied and created a number of opportunities, with Mbeumo having multiple chances to get United back into the game.
The Red Devils rode their luck at times – including an Atleti free kick hitting the post – but they stayed in this match for long periods.
The game then got away from United in a five-minute period late on. Yoro was sent off for a foul on Lookman shortly after the Atleti wing fired the ball home to put the game out of sight.
Maguire fires a shot goalwards from far out, smashing the ball into a block of bodies.
That’s the last action of the match and Atletico have defeated Manchester United.

Zirkzee declines to shoot and lays the ball off to Cunha.
It’s a good opportunity, but the shot is too close to Oblak, and the Atleti keeper makes the stop with his right foot.
