That’s a wrap
The grandest competition in European club football comes to a close after PSG win 4-3 on penalties after extra-time.
They successfully defend their crown to join the rare list of sides to complete back-to-back titles.
Arsenal’s search for a maiden win will have to wait, at least for another season, but their disappointment shouldn’t take away from what was a successful league campaign.
On behalf of Kevin Hand, this is Rohan Sharma signing off.

PSG’s Zaire-Emery becomes youngest player to win two Champions League finals
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery became the youngest player to win two Champions League finals after featuring in Saturday’s dramatic victory over Arsenal.
The French international, who came off the bench for extra time in PSG’s 4-3 penalty shootout triumph after a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Puskas Arena, lifted the trophy for the second straight season at the age of 20 years and two months.
Zaire-Emery had already featured briefly in last year’s crushing 5-0 victory over Inter Milan and now surpasses former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Johan Neeskens, who was 20 years and eight months old when he won his second European Cup final in the 1970s.

UEFA’s reasoning for awarding Vitinha the Players of the Match award
“Vitinha was Paris’s best player on the night,” European football’s governing body said.
“He took charge in midfield – particularly in the second half – driving his team forward and setting the tempo. It was an excellent performance from the Portuguese midfielder.”

The thoughts of the Ballon d’Or winner
“It’s been a big night. We’ve worked hard all season to win back-to-back titles,” Ousmane Dembele said.
“It’s brilliant: We’re going to savour this. It’s been tough – the whole season has been tough – and we’ve had to deal with a lot. But in the end, we’ve won the Champions League again, and we’re all delighted.
“At the end, it was cramps! In the 80th minute, it was touch and go. I think everyone had cramps at the end.”

Enrique: ‘I think both teams deserved to win’
PSG manager Luis Enrique spoke with TNT Sports following the match: “I decided a long time ago to try and stay calm, and to try and enjoy the last match. We were great in terms of quality and also our goalkeeper.
“It is amazing. I think we deserve it. I think both teams deserved to win, but the way we played the whole season, we deserved to win. Hope to try to do it again next year, why not?
“When you have a lot of quality players, you need to renew the squad. We need to get new players and solve things that you need with a team like PSG.
“I think the match started in the best way for them with a lucky action [Havertz scoring]. Then after they know how to defend.
“We are used to attacking with a lot of players behind the ball, but they were very tough. They decided to draw the match, but in the end, we were able to win the trophy.”

Arteta: ‘We got a big one, and missed on the biggest one’
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke with TNT Sports: “Yeah, it is very tough to accept when you are so consistent all the way to the final, but then lose the trophy on penalties.
“I watched it back [the Noni Madueke penalty let-off], and it could easily be a penalty, especially with the ones given this season. That was an important one.
“I am so proud of them. The season we had, and under the circumstances and what we have been through, they have given me so much joy. It has been a privilege.
“We got a big one, and missed on the biggest one. We haven’t done it for 22 years, so we have to recognise the season we have had. Right now, no one will take away the pain from you.
“They are a super team. Congrats to them. They are really difficult to play against, which is why they are two-time champions. With the individual quality and manager they have, they are a top team.
“You have to go through the motions. If you are in pain, go through the pain. If you could do something else, then learn from it. We want to show our ambition for next year.”

Rice: ‘Devastating to lose a Champions League final on penalties’
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice caught up with TNT Sports: “It is gutting. It is devastating to lose a Champions League final on penalties.
“[Just] trying to take perspective on how far we have come. It is our 63rd game in all competitions this season. We gave it everything, so just reflecting on a great season.
“You can win or lose games on penalties. Some of the best teams ever have lost. So proud of this group and boys. Can’t speak highly enough about everyone.
“It has been an incredible journey this season. They [Gabriel and Ebereche Eze] are devastated. To miss a penalty in a Champions League final is not nice. We love them and we are with them.
“They are not going to be the last players to miss in finals. Without them we wouldn’t have won the Premier League.
“I have ran out of words for both of them this season. They have been crucial. It is cruel, but we take the positives and keep going.
“At first glance on the pitch, he [Noni Madueke] was ahead of Nuno Mendes, and if you look at the one we got against Bayer Leverkusen, it looked very similar.
“Against PSG you have to be mentally on it for the whole game. That is how they score five or six against opponents. As the game went on we had some good chances and held them to not many either.
“They have lost loads over the years and now they are having their time [in the sun]. We are going to go on and keep pushing to try and achieve something big.
“He [Mikel Arteta] spoke about how much he loves us as a group, and what we have done in every single game. We have given everything with everything that has been thrown at us. This isn’t going to define us.”
