  • Next up for Portugal

With their friendlies now done and dusted, it’s full focus on the World Cup for Portugal, who are one of the last teams to play in the opening round of the tournament.

Up first is a Group K opener against DRC in Houston, Texas, on the 17th June, before they then face Fabio Cannavaro’s Uzbekistan at the same venue on the 24th of June.

Their final group stage match sees them face Colombia in Miami, a game that will no doubt see their South American opponents well-supported in Florida.

  • Good signs for Nigeria

While a lot of the focus was on World Cup-bound Portugal, Nigeria certainly had their moment in tonight’s loss.

The Super Eagles acquitted themselves well against a team many believe has a chance of winning the World Cup, and were it not for some indecision in the final third, could well have had more than their one goal.

Eric Chelle’s side’s four-game unbeaten run comes to an end, but they would have been good value for a draw tonight and there’s plenty to be positive about.

  • The Ronaldo conundrum

It’s the big question that any Portugal boss faces: What do you do if Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t firing?

Ronaldo got more minutes than any outfield player tonight, but he didn’t look overly sharp.

He had three big chances, missed all three of them, including one in the first half, which he couldn’t believe he’d dragged wide of the target, and he looked slightly off the pace compared to the movement of those around him.

Could Goncalo Ramos be the man to lead the line against DRC? Probably not, but it’s an interesting dilemma that Martinez has …

  • A solid hit-out for Portugal

They enjoyed 58 percent possession and had 13 attempts to Nigeria’s five in what was a relatively comfortable night for Portugal in Leiria.

Roberto Martinez’s side weren’t quite at their clinical best and probably should have scored more, but his players got valuable minutes into their legs ahead of their Group K opener with DR Congo in Houston.

  • Full Time – Portugal get the win!

Portugal will leave for the World Cup with back-to-back wins under their belts after defeating Nigeria 2-1 on home soil.

Pedro Neto opened the scoring before Akor Adams equalised. However, the game was won by substitute Francisco Conceicao, who angled a brilliant strike into the far corner to seal the victory.

Up next: DRC in Houston, Texas.

  • Four minutes added on

That seems a friendly amount of time to add on, given the cooling breaks and sheer number of subs.

Still, neither side will complain as we head into four minutes of added time.

    90 mins: Portugal 2-1 Nigeria

  • Another change for Nigeria

The 100-cap Alex Iwobi leaves the field to a round of applause and is replaced by Philip Otele.

  • Portugal in control…

Two minutes left to play here, and Portugal look comfortable in possession.

That said, we’re expecting at least five or six minutes to be added on…

    88 mins: Portugal 2-1 Nigeria

  • Good effort from Costa!

Substitute Samu Costa has just lashed an effort towards goal that, once again, forced a good save from Okoye in goal.

Meanwhile, we’ll keep an eye on midfielder Ruben Neves. He appeared to pick up a knock a few minutes ago and looked in some discomfort. Not what Roberto Martinez wants to see after Nuno Mendes was only able to play 30 minutes or so.

    84 mins: Portugal 2-1 Nigeria

  • Changes for both sides

Interestingly, PSG star Nuno Mendes has been subbed off despite coming on at the break, with Manchester City star Matheus Nunes coming on in his place

There have also been two more changes for Nigeria, with Nnadi and the impressive Adams replaced by Onuachu and Fernandez.

    79 mins: Portugal 2-1 Nigeria

  • What a lovely finish from Conceicao

After all the substitutions, the game needed a spark and substitute Conceicao has provided it.

He collected the ball on the right edge of the Nigeria box, jinked inside onto his left foot and arrowed a powerful strike into the far corner, which gave keeper Okoye no chance.

    Brilliant hit.

What a brilliant strike from Francisco Conceicao!

  • Yellow card for Felix

He’s gone into the book for thumping the ball fully 40 yards downfield after initially fouling Bassey.

A silly decision by the forward, and he’s been booked for it.

  • Brilliant from Adams!

They may be in the hydration break, but that hasn’t stopped Adams from having some fun!

The forward has gone over to the Portugal players receiving instructions from their assistant coach and tries to listen in on the tactical debrief.

He’s quickly shooed away, and we’re now back under way.

    68 mins: Portugal 1-1 Nigeria

  • Hydration break time

Nnadi has gone down off the ball and Portugal have put it out of play.

It appears as though he was caught off the ball by Cancelo, although it looked pretty innocuous.

The referee has decided it’s the perfect time to take on some water. Cooling break commences!

    67 mins: Portugal 1-1 Nigeria

  • Ronaldo’s night is over

The Portuguese superstar receives rapturous applause as he’s substituted here in Leiria.

He hasn’t had a great night, if we’re being honest, but the fans don’t care.

On comes Goncalo Ramos in his place.
