UK maritime agency warns ship masters blockade of Iran’s ports still in place
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency has warned ship masters that a military blockade on Iran’s ports remains in place “restricting all traffic inbound and outbound from these ports”.
An advisory published by the Royal Navy-led agency warned “neutral or merchant” ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz should remain at least 30 nautical miles (about 56km) away from “US units” and be prepared to respond to radio “hails or queries” from US military forces “to reduce risk of being mistaken as a threat”.
“Enforcement actions include disabling and destructive fires upon vessels who do not demonstrate immediate compliance with blockading forces,” the advisory said, also warning against “conducting or participating in ship-to-ship transfers”.
The advisory noted that vessels are “free to navigate international waters” and that the creation of the “warning zone” is meant to advise ships that “dangerous military operations are taking place” in this area.

Ex-CIA officer says Iran’s leadership is ‘hard to understand’
Former CIA officer Scott Uehlinger has told Al Jazeera that Donald Trump has been “hyping for the prospects of an immediate deal” with Iran for weeks.
The problem is that Iran’s leadership appears divided, Uehlinger said.
“The Iranians have definitely been speaking with two different voices one for the world community or on the negotiating table and the other to their own population.”
“It’s very hard to understand Iran [and] understand Iranian messages,” he added.

“End the war now,” she added.

Barghouti says Netanyahu’s Gaza plan ends ‘pretence’ of ceasefire
Following Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that Israel would take control of more than 70 percent of Gaza, Mustafa Barghouti, secretary general of the Palestinian National Initiative, spoke to Al Jazeera.
He said Netanyahu’s declaration effectively ended any remaining pretence that a ceasefire was in place.
“It’s the end of the so-called Board of Peace, which has claimed that it is responsible for the ceasefire,” he said. “What Israel has done and what Netanyahu declared is not only an insult to the Board of Peace, but also an insult to President Trump himself. But so far we have heard nothing from the United States or the US administration.”
Barghouti said Israel had violated the ceasefire agreement more than 3,000 times since it started last October.
Since then, Israeli attacks have killed at least 930 people, many of them women and children, and wounded more than 2,700 others. Barghouti also accused Israel of failing to meet its obligations under the agreement regarding humanitarian aid.
“What they allowed is less than 30 percent of what was decided according to that agreement,” added Barghouti.
“This means only two things, that Israel is planning to reactivate its genocidal war on Gaza … [and] they want to have ethnic cleansing of the whole population of Gaza.”

US Treasury Department issues new Iran ‘counterterrorism’ sanctions
The Treasury Department has issued new “counterterrorism” sanctions targeting Iranian individuals and entities, among others, it said in a statement.
Despite suggestions that a deal between the US and Iran may be close to ending the war that began on February 28, Trump repeatedly said negotiations would not deliver any sanctions relief despite demands otherwise.

‘Now just a waiting game’
General Dan Kane, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the main military body in the United States, has also been seen leaving the White House.
That would suggest to most people, that the meeting with Donald Trump is actually over. But what has been agreed, we are none the wiser at this point, and it may come on social media in the coming hours.
Certainly, Trump has made his red lines very clear again: that Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon, that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened quickly, and that Iran must also demine the strait as quickly as possible.
That might be difficult for them, given that Trump has said on a number of occasions that they’ve sunk all the mine hunters and minesweepers that the Iranian Navy has.
So this is now just a waiting game. Clearly, the Iranians are saying no final deal has been done. But there’s a suggestion that the idea that the blockade has been lifted might be the first step.
We’ve talked many times about how peace deals tend to be sequenced. And if lifting the blockade is the first point, then opening the Strait of Hormuz will be the second.
It will be a gradual easing of the blockade, but it certainly opens up the idea that there might be some movement here.

Hamas condemns Board of Peace silence over Netanyahu’s plan to control Gaza
The Palestinian group condemned Trump’s so-called Board of Peace for ignoring the Israeli prime minister’s announcement to seize control of about 70 percent of the Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson for the Hamas movement, Hazem Qasim, said the plan violates the ceasefire agreement as Israel continues to work on plans to displace Palestinians from the territory.
Qasim warned that turning a blind eye to these aggressive statements and failing to condemn Israel’s expansionist policies raises serious questions about the sponsoring parties’ commitments.
Earlier this year, Trump named high-level members to join the body to oversee Gaza’s post-war transition, including controversial figures like Tony Blair and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Israel has raised objections too, even though critics warn the US-led body sidelines Palestinian voices.

Rubio blames Hezbollah for fighting in Lebanon in call with Aoun
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun in a phone call that Hezbollah was “entirely responsible” for the ongoing fighting, adding that the Lebanese armed group must immediately cease attacks to allow for a de-escalation with Israel.
Rubio praised Aoun for his “courage and vision” in pursuing direct negotiations with Israel, even as Hezbollah “attempts to derail” attempts to “seize a historic opportunity to deliver peace,” according to the US Department of State.

IEA, IMF, World Bank, WTO discuss ‘collective support’ measures due to Iran war
The heads of the International Energy Agency, International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group and the World Trade Organization met to discuss their institutions’ response to the impacts of the war in the Middle East, they said in a joint statement on Friday.
The meeting took place on Thursday.
“If shipping flows do not return to normal, continued rapid depletion of global oil inventories ahead of peak summer oil demand in the Northern Hemisphere would present increasing risks for fuel security, market conditions, and broader economic resilience,” the institutions said, referring to the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
The institutions also explored options to “further enhance collective support through multilateral and bilateral actions,” it added
