Goodbye for now
Well, there you have it from Berlin.

This marks an unprecedented fourth European championship for La Roja – and they were undoubtedly the best team in the tournament.

Spain match-winner Mikel Oyarzabal offers his thoughts
“I have done my job. I did what I had to do at every moment to try to help. I was lucky enough to give the victory,” he said.
“Just the fact of being in the 26 [the number of players in the squad], you value it a lot here. To have the moment to help as it has happened to me is the best. It happened to me but [it] could have happened to anyone.”

Spain midfielder Rodri reacts to Euro 2024 win
“It’s unbelievable. This is a dream. Now, we are the best national team in the Euros. It’s crazy,” the player of the tournament told ITV Sport.
“But this talks about the humility we have had all these years to keep working, never lose the faith. We beat four former world champions to win – it’s amazing.
“They don’t need to have a great performance to score goals – I know these guys but this tournament, we showed something different and it was great
“The future for us is going to be everything. We have talent to keep moving on but for now, we celebrate.”

“The World Cup is in two years time and we need to remember this feeling and try to push on.”

What now for Gareth Southgate?
All of the reaction after the game from the pundits within the stadium seem to be in agreement. This was probably Southgate’s last game in charge.
He led them from despair, and defeat by Iceland when he took charge in 2016, to two Euro finals but this is likely to be the end for the former defender.

‘For me, they are the best in the world’
Winning Spain coach, Luis de la Fuente, shared his thoughts as well: “I couldn’t be happier. To see the fans, to see the players. A real team, European champions.
“I said I was proud and today I am even prouder,” he said.
“It confirms what we are. For me, they are the best in the world and today, I confirm that definition.”

‘It is fine margins but Spain were the best team in the tournament’
Southgate, whose future with the England team has been a topic of great contemplation, had this to say post-match: “We’ve competed until the very end of the final.
“Today, we didn’t keep possession quite well enough, especially when we defended well.
They pressed us well and we had to get out of it, which meant they had the best of the game.
“It is fine margins but Spain were the best team in the tournament and they deserve it.
“There is a disadvantage to having a day less to prepare, but we were in the game up to 80 minutes.
“Physically, it’s been a tough period for Harry.
“He was short of games and didn’t get up to speed. Ollie’s freshness allowed us to pressure more and it did.”
